Do Beards Grow Faster in the Summer?

Have you been trying to grow out your beard for a while, but not totally satisfied with the results?  Well, now that summer is approaching, you might find that your beard goals are much easier to attain. That’s because research shows that men’s beards grow faster during the warm summer months. As you’ll see, it all has to do with body chemistry and the natural ebb and flow of hormone levels.

To answer the title’s question, the short answer is yes, your beard will most likely grow at a quicker rate during the months of summer.  Sun exposure and warm weather trigger certain chemical changes in your body that, among other things, boost the growth rate of your facial hair.

Increased Testosterone Levels

Testosterone is the male sex hormone that’s responsible for the rate at which your beard grows.  It’s converted into DHT, a hormone that has a direct influence on the thickness and fullness of your beard as well as its growth rate.

Testosterone is at its lowest in the male body during the winter months.  Scientists don’t know exactly why, but it’s believed that it has to do with the way in which our primitive ancestors slowed down their activity during the cold winter season.  During the warm summer season, testosterone peaks. Because it peaks, more DHT is produced which directly results in a faster-growing beard.

Increased Vitamin D Levels

Another thing that boosts the rate of growth of your facial hair is vitamin D. Vitamin D comes from exposure to the sun. If you’re spending at least fifteen minutes outdoors each day during the warm season, you’re getting enough Vitamin D to see results.  Vitamin D is necessary for your overall health, and it also makes your beard grow more quickly. So, make sure that you spend some time outdoors this summer. And, don’t forget to put on that sunscreen to prevent skin damage!

How to Care for Your Beard During the Summer for Improved Hair Growth

Now that you know the ways in which your beard grows more quickly in the summertime, it’s important to implement some practices that will enhance that rate of growth even further.

Tip #1: Hydration is Key

Your beard needs a lot of moisture in order for it to be healthy.  Dry, dehydrated facial hair will become brittle and damaged, and hair that’s damaged isn’t going to grow at a normal rate.  Besides, intense sun exposure and dry, high heat can rob your beard of moisture. So, double up on those moisturizing products like beard oils during the summer season so that your strands are as healthy as can be.

Tip #2: Natural Ingredients Always Win

When it comes to choosing your beard care products, make sure that you go with formulas that contain natural, plant-based ingredients.  Chemical fillers are harsh on your beard, stripping it of moisture and damaging it to the point that growth slows down. Meanwhile, plant-based oils hydrate your beard so that it can grow at a healthy rate.

Tip #3: Stick to a Healthy Diet

Another thing that impacts your testosterone levels is your diet.  If your diet is lacking in the proper nutrients, your beard won’t grow at the rate you want it to.  So, make sure that you eat your leafy greens and consume enough protein to keep those testosterone levels high all year round.

Yes, Your Beard Will Likely Grow Faster During the Summertime…

At least, that’s what science says.  So, make sure that you take extra good care of your beard during the hot months, so that you can fully benefit from this beard-enhancing time of year.  And, don’t forget to grab natural, plant-based products to take your beard game to the next level.

My husband has patches and we are trying to get it to grow. What are some things he can do to encourage the growth and help it to become fuller and thicker.
