Slowing Down: A Message From Our CEO

It’s hard for us to believe that Jeremiah Newton created The Bearded Bastard over a decade ago. A lot has happened since then: a decade of limited releases, a Jägermeister collab, bastard-mess (the real bastards know), our acquisition by Sensible Cosmetics Company, and whatever wild stuff our good pal Jeremiah was able to come up with. We want to thank you, first and foremost, for being loyal to our brand and our product. We owe everything to your ongoing patronage and support. Because of this, we felt it necessary to be transparent with you about two major changes that will be happening within our brand. 

In 2023, we will be parting ways with our Oil of the Month program and we will be minimizing our product selection to our core line products only. From 2023 onward, we will only be offering Beard Balm, Beard Oil, and Mustache Wax in our core classic and premium scents. 

OTM has given us the opportunity to craft adventurous scents on a regular basis. This one hits hard, because every unique scent is formulated in house with an emotion and memory behind it. At the beginning of the new year, we will no longer be offering OTM. No action needs to be taken on your part if you're an OTM subscriber. Your subscription will simply stop working after December 2022. You will receive the rest of your limited scents for the rest of the year. With that being said, from time to time we may ask our loyal bastards which scent they would like to see again and we may offer a limited batch! We want to give a special thank you to our OTM subscribers. It’s been one hell of a ride. 

Our wide range of products has given us the opportunity to experiment and try new things. But the reality is, we simply can’t focus on our core product line and an extended product line at the same time. We are creating a “Last Call” section on our website. There, you will find every product that will be permanently discontinued. All available just in time for the Holiday season so you can grab that final batch for you, your friends, and your family.  Below, you will find a list of all the products that we are going to withdraw from our selection:

You may be asking yourself, “Why all the changes?” This, like any question from our customers, is a fair question. TBB has always been about experimentation. From our limited monthly releases to crafting unique scents that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else. All while putting the environment first. Creating a product that you’ll love and doesn’t destroy the planet. It’s these values that propel us towards excitement and experimentation. 

The year of 2022 was poised to be full of excitement and the promise of experimentation. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have foreseen the challenges that would come with it. From unmanageable supply chain issues, to unexpected maintenance problems, and a lack of access to the natural ingredients that make our uncompromising product what it is. 

These challenges don’t make us unique whatsoever. Small businesses everywhere are on the struggle bus. But sometimes, the challenge isn’t worth the pursuit. Especially if it means putting our team, our product, and our brand in an overly sensitive position. After listening to concerns raised by our team, we have made the decision to lessen aspects of our brand. When speaking with our team, we found two key areas that were daily stressors: the amount of products that we make and the frequency at which we make them.  

In making these changes, we hope to alleviate the unnecessary stress and pressure that our team has felt, allowing us to streamline our business: providing the core line products you know and love, at a cost that is friendly for you and for your beard. And lastly, to stay true to the values that have been with the brand since the beginning. 

We realize the multitude of feelings that may arise when a brand discontinues a product, especially a cosmetic product. Scent, texture, and performance are difficult to let go of once experienced. The reliability of a product and the nostalgia of its properties are real. We’re here to help. If you have any questions, concerns, or just need to reach out, please holler at us. Communicating with our customer base, no matter the message, is vital to us. We’re always happy to listen and we’re always happy to help. Especially through these changes.
