Beard Oil Versus Balm

Beard Oil Versus Balm

As a modern bearded man, you have more products than ever to choose from when it comes to the upkeep of your facial hair. Here at The Bearded Bastard, we’re often asked about the differences between beard oil and beard balm, and which product is more effective. The simple answer is that both oil and balm are excellent choices for beard maintenance, but which one is best for you will depend on a number of factors, as well as personal choice. Let’s take a look.

Beard Oil

Ultimate skin + beard health

Beard oil is a versatile product that is beneficial both for your beard and the skin beneath it. Oil acts as a deep leave-in conditioner, and will soften your facial hair as well as moisturizing your skin. Look for a beard oil that contains all-natural essential oils, rather than synthetic fragrances. Essential oils are beneficial for your hair and skin, and there is a huge variety of alluring scents to choose from. Essential oils can act as a light cologne - pleasant, intriguing, but not overwhelming - both to you and those drawn in by your luscious facial locks.

Beard oil has all the moisturizing and softening effects you expect from a beard product, but won’t leave your beard so shiny that you look like you just filmed an Herbal Essences commercial. Oil will give your beard a clean, matte appearance. Maximize the effects of your oil by brushing or combing it through your beard after applying it for a sleek, sexy, healthy beard.

Who should use it?

Oil may work best for those with facial hair ranging from short stubble to a medium-length beard; however, it can also be used by those with longer whiskers. Using it can help reduce itching in men with a tendency toward dry skin, or those in the early phases of growing beards. It also works well for men with regular or slightly oily skin, as oil is a light natural moisturizer that will not leave your skin or beard feeling greasy. Here at The Bearded Bastard, we’ve formulated our beard oils to absorb quickly and imitate the oils your face naturally produces.

Check out The Bearded Bastard’s line of classic and premium oils, thoughtfully crafted to suit the needs of every beard. With our signature blend of cleansing and moisturizing oils, including jojoba, argan, grapeseed, and sweet almond, as well as fragrances made from real essential oils, we guarantee your beard will be looking, feeling, and smelling its finest.

Beard Balm

Shape + style with ease

Beard balm is a fantastic product that will provide you with all the moisturizing effects of a quality beard oil while packing an extra punch. Balm is a great choice for fellas needing a bit of taming action for medium to extra-long beards, but it is also a favorite of men with shorter beards who tend toward very dry skin. Look for all-natural balms that contain shea butter, beeswax, or lanolin, as well as beneficial essential oils such as argan and jojoba. The shea butter or beeswax will both combine with and act as a sealant for the essential oils, locking them into your skin and providing intensive moisturizing all day long. Depending on the essential oils or fragrances you select, your balm will lend a subtle fragrance to your beard that others will “ooh” over upon getting up close.

Who should use it?

Those looking to shape and style beards of any length will love the strong-but-not-stiff holding power of beard balm. This versatile product is a favorite of men of all ages and walks of life. From office professionals needing to tame and style their beards to those working out in the elements, beard balm will give you the look and hold that you want, and keep it there all day. Balm will help make your beard appear fuller and thicker, so it’s a great boost for those with beards of any length or thickness who desire an extra bit of volume. Balm lends a shiny appearance to your beard and may cause passersby to gasp in awe whence they behold the sunlight glinting off of your beard like a glorious beacon.

Take a look at The Bearded Bastard’s collection of beard balms that will satisfy all your beardly needs. Made with real beeswax, shea and cocoa butters, coconut oil, and a multitude of all-natural essential oils with fantastic scents, our balms will provide long-lasting moisturizing and styling action for your beard that will stop others in their tracks.

Both oil and balm will improve the health and appearance of your facial hair and skin. If you simply can’t choose, don’t worry - you can also use both! Use in combination, or separately on days when you feel like going for different looks. For more information, check out our Top Five Questions about Beard Oil tutorial!

    Hey Michael,

Great question. None of our products should stain your shirts. We formulate them to have a quick absorption rate. Usually they absorb in about 15 minutes. Cheers!

I work in a professional setting and just got beard balm and oil. Do either of these products stain shirts? Thanks!

    Hey John,

Our premium beard oil is perfect for keeping white hair which is usually drier moisturized and soft. Unfortunately all of our balm and mustache wax is made with yellow beeswax so it’s hit or miss whether it will show up in the white hair. Good luck!

I have a longer mustache and long goatee…and they are white hair. Any tips for us older white haired bastards?
