To shine a light on this family of experts and the amazing things they do in the grooming world, we're launching a new feature here on The Journal to called Retailer Spotlight. First up — The Standard Barbershop in Fairfax, VA.

The Standard

The Standard Barbershop is a family-owned business located in the heart of Old Town Fairfax, Virginia. Opened by expert barber Tommy Cheung, The Standard just celebrated its 1 Year Anniversary this month.

In the short amount of time since it opened, The Standard has gained a reputation in the D.C. area as the place to go for everything you need to look the part of a discerning gentleman. From hot towels and straight-razor shaves, to grooming products from top brands like The Bearded Bastard.

"It’s our vision of what a barbershop should be: quality cuts with a laid back atmosphere and a friendly staff that makes every client feel special,” says Cheung. “Being a barber is more than just cutting hair; it’s about a craft that is so long forgotten. It’s about the opportunity of making people look and feel good about who they are."

Barbershops were historically places where men gathered to discuss local politics and ponder the state of the world while being pampered with a great shave and haircut. The Standard brings back that relaxed masculine atmosphere and step away from the modern digital age.
